Physics Education

Physics Education Research is the application of the tools of science to investigations into the learning and teaching of physics. Here in the Department of Physics, Dr. Steve Kanim's research is primarily concerned with students' acquisition of conceptual knowledge in physics, and in the application of this knowledge to the solution of physics problems. Through interviews with students and by analyzing student responses to written questions, the Physics Education Research Group seeks to understand specific student difficulties with selected topics and procedures in physics. This research serves as a basis for the improvement of instruction in physics and contributes to a broader goal of understanding how people think.
