Our Mission

The mission of the Physics program at New Mexico State University is to offer a degree preparing our graduating students for careers in a variety of scientific and technical areas as well as for graduate study in physics and related fields.


Program Educational Objectives of the Physics Program at New Mexico State University

Physics Program Outcomes

The Department of Physics expects our graduates to acheive program outcomes necessary for becoming subject matter experts.

a. Scientific Expertise: an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and applied sciences.

b. Experimental Training: an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

c. Design Abilities: an ability to design a system, component, or process or program to meet desired needs.

d. Teamwork: an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.

e. Problem Solving: an ability to identify, formulate, and solve applied science problems.

f. Professional Responsibility: an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.

g. Communication Skills: an ability to communicate effectively.
